Nothing. Every team member is a volunteer. Sheriff’s Office personnel are paid county employees, but the SAR team itself is volunteer-based.
Call volume varies from year to year. The team responds as needed when rescue and search calls come in through the proper channels.
Response depends on the incident and the type of help needed. Team members are activated when calls require Search and Rescue support.
The team is made up of roughly 60 volunteers serving Utah County.
No. The team supports a wide range of rescue and search situations, including mountain, snow, vertical, water, tracking, medical, and other specialty needs.
It takes commitment, teamwork, ongoing training, and the ability to serve in demanding environments. Applicants must also meet the team’s eligibility requirements.

Applicants must be 21 or older, and the team performs a full background check on each applicant.
